способствовать развитию умения выявлять проблему, анализировать, находить пути ее решения, обобщать и сравнивать понятия на основе изученного материала;

формировать навыки устной речи;

ХОД УРОКА

1.Организационный момент

Good afternoon. Glad to see you.

2. Речевая разминка

Before discussing the theme of our lesson I’d like you to listen to the story about 2 brothers and answer my questions. (аудирование текста (магнитофон), ответы на вопросы учителя) Why didn’t brothers go to school? (they didn’t want to study) What subjects did they have that day? (Maths, English, Handicraft, Art, Nature Study) And what are your favourite subjects? What subjects are difficult for you? How many lessons do you usually have? What is school for you?

So, who can say what the theme of our lesson is? (варианты учеников: школа, школьная жизнь, образование) You are right. Today we’ll speak about the system of education in different countries.

5. Выявление проблемы

There are two types of schools in the USA: public and private schools. You know that in Britain “public” means “private”. But in the USA these types of schools are different. Can you guess the American meaning of these words? (варианты учащихся).

We can answer this question after listening to the information about the system of education in the USA (аудирование текста «Система образования в США», учебник, с.102 №1.3)

Public schools in the USA are financed by the state. And private schools are paid schools. Listen to the text again and choose the correct answer (listening for specific information).

Education starts with the pre-school education at nursery school and kindergarten at the age of 5 and 6. Pupils in the USA are called students. So, at 6 students go to the elementary school. After this they study for 4 years at high school, which is divided into junior high school and senior high school. Secondary schools are usually called high schools in the USA. As you can see, elementary and high schools give a 12-years compulsory education. At the age of 18 after finishing high school young people may enter colleges or universities to get higher education. The oldest and the most prestigious is Harvard University in the state of Massachusetts.

Let’s compare the systems of education in different countries. Discuss British, American and Russian education systems and try to name all the factual differences between them. Work in groups and be ready to present the result of your work (обсуждение в группах, представление различий).
